December 2018 Newsletter

Hello everyone!

With little reprieve from continuing drought conditions & a heatwave sweeping across southern Australia we're thankful that on the weather front 2018 is drawing to a close. Some of the climatic events we have seen since our last newsletter are pictured left. It’s been a hard year & like many others in agriculture we are hopeful for much improved seasons in 2019. Despite ongoing drought we’ve managed to sow a sorghum grain crop which is now a welcome patch of green relief in the background of our day to day operations. We received 33mm in the biggest fall of rain on Barana in a long time followed by showers which gave us a total of 57mm in December. Peter was privileged to judge at both BEEF 2018 and the Royal Melbourne Show this year and enjoyed catching up with many old friends and the opportunity to look at some excellent cattle. Our Simmental herd continues to hold their condition & it’s pleasing to see the Simmental breed being recognised for their many attributes particularly after their triumph at BEEF 2018. It is rewarding to see Barana pedigrees in many successful stud programmes & Barana genetics breeding on for our clients. Our 19th Annual On Farm Bull Sale will be held on Thursday 4 July 2019. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates as the sale approaches.

We wish all our clients, past, present and prospective a happy New Year. We hope a better season in 2019 brings you fat cattle, bountiful crops & happy times shared with family & friends.
