Out of a catalogue of 102 bulls representing 10 studs from Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and NSW, 92 of the 94 bulls offered in the ring sold under the hammer

Barana stud principal Peter Cook said the result of the sale exceeded expectations after many regular commercial clients had reduced breeding numbers in anticipation of dry conditions. "We couldn't believe it," he said.

Established on traditional European and New Zealand bloodlines, Barana has grown into one of Australia's most respected seedstock operations, producing cattle trusted by commercial and stud producers alike.

Barana's top price was Lot 59 Barana Ultimate (P) who sold for $21,000 to Kirk Cattle Co. & our 7 bulls averaged $10,714.

He said the Queensland Simmental Bull Sale gives Barana access into the north. "This sale is an opportunity for northern breeders to see and purchase Barana bulls in the flesh, on their doorstep."

Buyers sought soft, well-balanced, and early-maturing type bulls at the 25th annual Barana Simmental and Angus bull sale, held on property at Barana, near Coolah.

Peter Cook has bred both commercial and stud cattle for more than 45 years, in good times and bad, and he knows Barana cattle will suit clients operating under all Australian conditions.

Bulls showing an early maturity pattern were high on buyers' lists at the 24th Barana Simmental and Angus on-property sale on Friday, July 5, near Coolah.
