Barana Simmentals Sell To $14,000 Five Times
THE 17th annual on-property sale for Barana Simmentals saw a huge crowd enjoying the day with some vigorous bidding on the favourite lots.
Of the 43 Simmental bulls offered, 40 sold at auction giving a 93 per cent clearance topping at $14,000 five times, averaging $8075. Two Angus bulls were also offered both selling for a top of $7000 and an average of $6500.
Six PTIC heifers were offered and all sold to a top of $5500 and averaging $4100 with seven unjoined heifers were offered, four of these selling at auction, topping at $5500 and averaging $2285.
Brett Nasmith, Monteray Pastoral Company, Coolah, a repeat buyer of over 30 years, uses this sale to replace his bulls. He normally runs about 250 black baldy cows in a commercial enterprise. His draft of three included two of the top-priced bulls. He purchased these bulls principally based on scan figures and weight for age.
Barana Commercial, a 22 month-old son of Barana Emotion PTCPE059 and Barana Liaison, a 20 month-old son of Barana Juryman both equaled the top price of $14,000. The other purchased bull was 22 month-old, Barana Lindel, also a son of Barana Juryman who sold for $12,000. His draft average was $13,333.
“I particularly liked lot one, he has a good length and his weight for age is fantastic,” Mr Nasmith said.
The other top-priced bulls headed to Naracoorte, South Australia, Malanda, Queensland and Gunnedah.
The top-priced PTIC heifer was Barana Lowanna 2nd, a daughter of Tennysonvale Hugo, who sold for $5500 to Claygully Simmentals from Esk, QLD. The top unjoined heifer, Barana Megan, daughter of Callendale Jasper, also made $5500 and will find herself at Wondoola Simmentals, Cassilis.
Co-Principle Peter Cook, Barana Pastoral, Coolah, said the sale was very good. He found the crowd was up 20 per cent on last year’s.
“We had a lot of old and new clients. The sale was strong and we are very happy with the results,” Mr Cook said.
“It is good to see that the good operators in the commercial industry are willing to pay very good prices for their new working bulls.
“The Simmental breed is on a bit of a roll, the softer, well fleshed, easy doing cattle are being sort after by commercial producers who are finding a good weight for age weight gain.”
Elders Gunnedah manager Nik Hannaford was very pleased for the great result right through the day. He congratulated Peter and Charmaine on the fantastic sale.
The sale was conducted in conjunction by Elders, Gunnedah and Davidson Cameron and Company, Gunnedah with Elders Livestock and Paul Dooley taking control of the rostrum.
