Barana is a 2300 acre mixed farming & grazing property situated 15km north of Coolah on the Central West slopes of New South Wales. Barana Simmentals was founded in 1980 on traditional European and New Zealand bloodlines. We began showing at major Royal Shows in 1986, achieving many Champion awards and earning a name for breeding good, sound, functional cattle. We ceased showing in 2001 after 15 years of successful exhibition at all major shows.

The Barana sale is the premier Simmental sale in eastern Australia with the largest offering of purebred Simmental bulls by a single vendor. We have sold bulls nationwide & secured a solid client base. Stud Principal, Peter Cook has worked hard over the past 29 years breeding & showing Simmentals reinforcing Barana’s reputation with both commercial & stud cattle producers.

Barana is one of the largest Simmental breeders in the eastern states with the stud herd including 200 registered breeders. Great importance is placed on breeding for ease of calving, milk production & fertility & females must be able to rear a calf under natural conditions. Barana has endeavoured to breed bulls that produce steers that are quick growing with good carcase characteristics and the ability to finish. We have achieved success in the Australian National Field Days Grass-fed Steer and the RAS NSW Feedlot JapOx Competitions. Our clients have also achieved results with Barana bulls in carcase judging competitions where their progeny are consistently dressing out at 58% & outdoing other breeds in weight for age. In 2008 Barana ventured into the black Simmental market. We purchased a dozen black Simmental females & imported black embryos from Canada. These embryos were implanted into recipients resulting in 17 purebred black Simmental calves on the ground. Barana’s black Simmentals will complement our existing herd & the breeding programme will aim to produce black cattle with similar characteristics to our traditional Simmentals.

This year we will conduct our 9th Annual On-Farm Bull Sale on Thursday 2^nd July at 1pm. On offer will be 43 bulls predominantly polled & 32 Females. This includes the genuine Complete Dispersal of Andrew Jamieson’s 2Diamond6 Simmentals.
